Sinus Lift Surgery

What is sinus lift and bone grafting?

A sinus lift surgery, also known as sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure that is performed by Elite Clinic to increase the amount of bone in the
upper jaw, specifically in the area of the molars and premolars.

This procedure is often necessary for patients who have experienced bone loss in the upper jaw due to age or other factors and want to
have dental implants placed but do not have enough natural bone to support them.

The maxillary sinuses are located on either side of the nose, above the upper jaw. As we age, the sinuses can expand, which can cause a loss
of bone in the upper jaw, particularly in the back where the molars and premolars are located.

During the sinus lift procedure, an incision is made in the gum tissue and the bone is exposed. A small window is created in the bone to
access the sinus cavity.

The sinus membrane is gently lifted, and a bone graft material is placed into the space between the sinus and the jawbone. The bone graft
material will stimulate the growth of new bone in the area, which will eventually fuse with the existing bone.

It’s important to note that not all patients are suitable for a sinus lift surgery.

The dentist will need to evaluate the patient’s dental condition and overall oral health to determine if a sinus lift is the best option. Factors
such as the location and size of the tooth, the condition of the surrounding teeth and gums, and the patient’s budget and preferences will all
be taken into consideration before making a recommendation.

A bone grafting procedure can be performed simultaneously with a sinus lift surgery or at a later time.

The bone graft material is then placed in the area where the bone is missing and secured in place with special membranes or screws.

After the procedure, the patient will need to wait several months for the bone to heal and the implant to be placed. The healing process is
different for each patient and can take anywhere from 3 to 9 months. Once the bone has healed, the implant can be placed in the newly
grafted bone, and the patient can have their new teeth.

It is important for the patient to follow a strict oral hygiene regimen to maintain the health of the grafted area and also to prevent any
infection. The patient should also avoid hard and sticky foods and follow the instructions provided by the surgeon regarding diet, activity
level, and medications.

The success rate of sinus lift and bone grafting at Elite Clinic is high, with over 95% success rate. However, it is important to note that sinus
lift and bone grafting are not suitable for everyone, and the patient’s oral health and overall health will be evaluated by the dentist and oral
surgeon to determine if the procedure is a viable option
